I stole this from WONGSO... - On the different Kinds of Love (Good Stuff)

Combinations of intimacy, passion, and commitment

1. Liking: true friendships (strong bond, warmth and closeness)
2. Infatuated love: "love at first sight"
3. Empty love: Only commitment remains, where intimacy and passion have died
4. Romantic love: Bonded emotionally and physically through passionate arousal.
5. Companionate love: Often found in marriages where passion has dissipated, but a deep affection and commitment remains. Companionate love is a personal relation with somebody you share your life with, but with no sexual or physical desire.
6. Fatuous love: E.g. whirlwind courtship and marriage in which commitment is motivated largely by passion, without the stabilizing influence of intimacy.
7. Consummate love: the complete form of love.

IMPORTANT: Sternberg cautions that maintaining a consummate love may be even harder than achieving it. Consummate love may not be permanent.
He stresses the importance of translating the components of love into action.
"Without expression, even the greatest of loves can die" (1987, p.341).
