I wasnt convinced why i should give up the china internship until....

I said yesterday night that the chances of me going to GZ is 90%. Apparently, the divine instructions i got and the instructions by mdm Lim was more important. And to look back, i realised a lot of events have also happened to stop me from going. I couldnt quite understand and really believe or give up my overseas stint that i was so looking forward to until i begin to look further... into all these news after doing some research and after i know that i shouldnt make Mdm Lim worry about me anymore.

Death toll climbs to eight as Chanchu hits Guangdong

BEIJING: The death toll climbed to eight after Typhoon “Chanchu” hit Southern China’s Guangdong province early Thursday, while more than 900,000 people were evacuated, an official and state media said.

The eight victims, including two children, were killed when their houses collapsed in Guangdong’s Shantou city following a landslide caused by torrential rain, an official at the local flood control center told AFP.

A total of 905,000 people have been evacuated, including 327,000 in Guangdong province and 578,000 in neighboring Fujian province where the typhoon was heading, the Xinhua news agency said.

The 6,400 people stranded earlier Thursday by flooding in Shantou were rescued, another official from the Shantou flood control office told AFP.
Chanchu is the strongest typhoon recorded in the South China Sea in May.

7,000 Evacuated After Chemical Accident in Guangzhou

More than 7,000 people have been evacuated as a precaution after an incident on Wednesday night at a chemical warehouse in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

At around 7:00 PM on Wednesday night, chemicals leaked and self-ignited at a warehouse at Daguan Road in Tianhe District of Guangzhou. The fire was put out at about midnight, with 49 people hospitalized for medical observation. There was no immediate report of any casualties.

The evacuees included 6,000 college students, local government sources confirmed on Thursday.

Local environmental protection department is monitoring local air quality, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Guangdong Water Pollution Threatens 40,000 People

A water pollution incident was reported Friday in Sanchajiang River, of Wuchuan City in Guangdong Province, posing a threat to the safety of drinking water for nearly 40,000 people.
Large quantities of dead fish were found in eight ponds of a fish farm at Lingtou Village in Changqi Township, confirmed the business owner, surnamed Pan. Nearby townships also reported large numbers of dead fish and cases of livestock being poisoned.

According to the local government the polluted area was about eight kilometers in length. Water in the polluted areas turned brown.

The pollution has affected the lives of 40,000 people. The local government ordered waterworks in the polluted areas to stop taking water from the river and urged all local markets not sell aquatic products.

So far hospitals in Wuchuan City have not received any cases of poisoning. .
Preliminary investigation suggests the pollutants were illegally discharged by an upstream enterprise, according to the Wuchuan city environmental protection bureau.

Verdict

No more hope at Company M i think...

So, the chances of me going to Guangzhou is 90%.
The 10% basically is because i need the final official approval from Mdm Lim.

I was a little disappointed but glad on the other hand cos i actually manage to get thru one round of interview to get a feel of what it is like and also, that my resume is working.

  • ABF funding
  • VIsa application
  • Letter of employment from the company
  • Air tickets
  • Registrar office of permission for 5.5
  • OCS's final approval
  • Travel insurance

BAck to all these things which was once so familiar.. now i have to do them all again.

Finding the right footing

All i need now is an approval from the school to let me take 5.5 CU in the fall semester and Im happy regardless of the outcome of my interview with Company M

I will just take this as an experience and also... move on with my internship in guangzhou which is already there waiting for me. I shouldnt be so troubled anymore. Everything is so tight but yes.. Good things really dont come easily.

I Just hope to be given a chance to meet Mr H. And then i will try my best and its all up to god.

Xiao long Bao or Char kway teow???

Biting it hard

My interview with Company M:

This is my first serious interview with a possible internship and job prospect at stake. Im not sure how i fared cos I have no idea who i am competing with and if I can actually meet the boss tom.

I had a pretty nice "chat" with the HR manager for about 45 min. She asked me a lot of questions on what i did in Thailand, in my part time work and also things like my career objectives. She looked happy. So was I. I did all i could, spoke as calmly as possible and tried to answer her questions too. My exchange in bkk did help to make my interview interesting i guess since i have more things to talk about.

If there is one thing which i am really not competent in, that will be my finance knowledge. Im so far behind. There is so much more that i need to know right now. I dun wanna be put at a disadvantage for something which i have the ability to do and learn but am only really doing so later. And no choice now. In the event that i get called up tom, I have to be in my best possible form.

He is the one who is looking for people with this certain kind of personality. I have to bring out my personality in the next interview. The greatest challenge in this whole string of events and dilemmas is not so much of the events themselves, it was challenging because i have yet to find out what i really want and i want to be able to account to myself at the end of the day.

Greatest enemy: Myself

Positive thinking. Top form. This is all that i can do.

Im really grateful to the HR manager of the Guangzhou company for being so understanding and willing to extend the deadline for me to decide whether or not im going over.

And All those who have been there to offer advice, listen to me whine and complain or just to give me some encouragement. THANK YOU.

Special thanks to Chee Sin
AHha.. he has been my source of help whenever i have problems with my finance homework and whenever i have problems with theories i dun understand. Each and everytime he is so patient and so willing to help. THANK YOU.

Oh, i forgot to tell you guys about my Guangzhou interview. I was called at 930pm on tuesday night and i was out. Ms Law called me at around 1045pm and that was when the interview took place. The interview was conducted in English and only towards the end then we started conversing in chinese. She sounded really nice and well.. i just realised she IS nice.

Things she wanted me to take note:

I will be staying at the plant's dormitory and i would most likely have a chinese roommate. I wasnt sure if she meant the nationality or the race. Cos if i remember correctly, there is another SMU person going with me unless of course, that is a guy. AHah.. then no choice. She highlighted that the accomodation isnt really that nice or at least not as nice as the ones at home. However, that is not really an issue to me cos anyway its only 2 months.

I would not be given defined jobscope until later on, when i have to help out in the recruitment fairs and other HR stuff.

If i were to eventually decide to go over, it would really be for the experience and my resume.

But that would most probably mean i have to give up my summer course and then do a 5.5 on my last sem.

SIGH... There is only one perfect situation that i can pray for and really wish for. That is to get the internship for company M. And everything will just fall in place.

To-do-list for today:

  • Pack my room and my table
  • Have a proper lunch
  • Mug Mug Mug
  • Read BT and FT
  • Maybe need to call up my seniors....

Am I there yet?

Good news:

Jan from school called me today to tell me that the one of the companies ask for my photo and my result slip. She also asked me to be ready for a phone interview anytime since the company is based in guangzhou. I was so excited and was on adrenalin high after that.

And so i began researching on the company and then i realised that the company is quite an international company. Hmm... I really am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I think i need to prepare for 2 interviews. As in one in mandarin and one in english. Im not sure which language they would conduct it in and the worst is i dunno when they will call me. If i remember correctly, i should always reject or try to ask for another time slot when they first call for phone interview until i settle down and have all the necessary documents beside me b4 i agree to have the phone interview.

I dun like to be in this kind of situation when everything is so uncertain and im not even sure where i will be in 2 weeks' time.

Anyway,,, i heard this thaitanium's song "Zero" at "cold wear" suntec today. However, it is the english version. I still think the thai version is better. I like the way they rap it.. thai eng thai kind.. very cool.

On Chris's exchange in Denmark:
haha... Chris told me that they have this weighing machine kind of of thing in hall.. and every now and they they monitor their weight.. ahha.. and the person with the highest increase will have to buy everyone else beer... and the story goes on... AHAH.. so cute!!!

Bad news:
Everything is yet to be confirmed...

And i lost the contact of my insurance agent!!! i need to claim my medical bills from bkk!!!

A lot of things are not within my control now..

Hew mak (very hungry)

I have been perpetually hungry these days... due to the very irregular meal times. I start work at the shop at 11am and i would usually reach home near midnight. My only meal in the day would be lunch at around 4pm. Sometimes i do have a light breakfast and then a heavy lunch and no dinner and just light snacks at around 8 plus or fruits after work around 9pm not by choice but simply cos there is no where convinient to get food and also, its is already late. If i were to eat huge portions of food, im definitely going to grow fat. Im always totally worn out after work (actually i already feel it during work) cos i have to stand for like at least 9 hours in the shop. So tired!!!! At this rate that im going... i think i will just continue to lose weight. I only eat a lot when im out with friends and family. Cos only then am i happy and yeah.. with more appetite. Anyway... Im really hungry now. And very tired.

*YAWN* for the 1000th time today.

I can finally sleep in tom. Im not going to work tom. And mon. I wanna just take a break from all these and see what the companies and school have to say. Also, i need to continue with the packing of my room.

TOM IS THE DAY OF MAHJONG!!!

HAha... my bro and sis are going to come back and we are going to play mahjong together. AHah... mummy even brought the tiles out to wash them... she bought a new mahjong table too. AHah.. nelle is already here since yesterday night and she is sleeping with my mummi. She wore this really cute pyjamus when i saw her yesterday. Today i came home late.. cos i went to the mango sale at marina square after work. Bought a handbag... got it at 50% off!! AHah... in the end, Jenny, Li Qin and me all got the same bag.. ANyway.. so i came home late and didnt see her and so i missed out on the BIG good night KISS from her.. ahah.. GOOD NIGHT YEE YEE!!!

Im looking forward to tom!! Yay!!! and im going to eat the Minced Meat with mushroom noodles from AMK Centre, AKA MEE POK!!! I havent played mahjong for a long time le.. AHha..really happy and excited!!

Chee wei!! I read ya blog about all the travelling you did on silk road. Im not sure if you can still read my blog from shanghai due to the blogspot error. Anyway... I really feel like going to china now!!! AWWEEE....

Waiting... hopefully not in vain

Yup.. waiting for the officers to tell me if i can actually take 5.5 in this fall sem. Waiting for the folks from the 2 companies to tell me if i am offered an internship. The future for this year seems so uncertain. And because all these seem so uncertain... my choice of community service has to be put on hold. I dun wanna go back to TTSH to do filing. I wanna get a different experience elsewhere. I do more and mingle with people. Or at least, i wanna learn something new from the community service.

This is an excellent opportunity i open up to people from all walks of life... especially to groups of people whom i may, in my life, never have an opportunity to have contact with and even come close to. There are the aids patients, the patients from Institute of Mental health, etc. Also, im thinking of volunteering for Singapore museum for some exhibitions on photography. I get inspired, motivated and moved by things people say to me or share with me. I enjoy that kind of interaction. I think i have been pretty blessed to have a lot of very nice and kind people around me who are willing to share something beautiful with me, no matter how trivial the matter, or how unimportant it seems. Even sometimes when customers just walk into the shop and was just browsing around, somethings that few lines that we exchange is enough to make my day or get me motivated. Im lucky on those days. I learnt a lot from everyone i met in bkk too. Everyone. They dun have to be some big bankers or some people with prestigious backgrounds or are earning a lot of money now. In fact, i realise that those people are usually the ones who are most reluctant to share. Of course, like all things, there are exceptions.

yeah So.. WAit....

Me in GSR in school. I went back to use the internet

This is how a Group Study Room in SMU looks like.. the best thing about this room is the number of power points available. There are at least 6 available in each room.. And we all need that for projects. YUp, those were my mess on the table

Introducing to all of you... Annabelle!!!...
yeah its me... EAting again!!!
Classic pic.. ahah... belle is the new model for my classic pic. I guess i will be having a few.. Sorry Jy!!!

This is the complementary desert. The 4 whitish balls are mochi... with red bean paste, strawberries and banana.

Happy Nelle...

Mother's day celebration with sis...

Bee and Yee yee...
We had the celebration at the "central Cha Cam Teng" at Taka. The food is rather disappointing. With that location, and the quality of food that they serve, they are not going to earn enough to pay for the rental of the shop for sure. Wish them luck though!!
I must share this with you guys... This is almond tea with egg. See the yolk and the egg white? This drink is surprisingly good. I got the hot one as suggested by the waitress cos she said for the cold one, the egg will be raw.

Tired me

First of all... sorry peeps for the half updated entries ever since i came back home... somehow im having problems with my picasa and i cant seem to upload pics properly. Also, i would love to upload pics of my farewell with Jy and Asma but i need to get the pictures together from everyone first.

Im really tired peeps...

Life is hectic now. I have lots of things to sort out for my graduation. And right now, unless i get an internship this summer, i will not be able to graduate in Dec. Cos if i cant get it, then i will have to do the internship after my term in dec, meaning i can only officially graduate in around feb or march... and that means... actually april. So.. in conclusion, although i finish in 3.5 yrs... on the scroll, it will be reflected as 4 years.

But there is hope now. Just to keep you guys updated, i have applied to 2 internships at the moment to china. One to guangdong, one to shandong. If i get it i will be away from june till aug. And i will have to do a 5.5 in the fall sem. The 5.5 is a killer. I will have to be MUGGER SHI.. and really work my ass off. This is the ONLY way i can file for graduation in sept/oct and REALLY graduate in around jan... Wish me luck everyone!! Pray for me!!!

JUNE and PUM!!! I really love the video clip that you guys did for me... Now i actually own a CD with me as the cover girl... HHAA.. you two are really sweet.. Thank you girls!!! Im already missing you two so much.

I will make up for all my farewellgoodies once im settled with all the uncertainty. This is to all those who are still in bkk and also Asma.

* Shi is not smiling so much anymore... that is not a good sign.. *

To be continued....

Its currently raining cats and dogs outside. Im in one of the GSR. HAha.. BAck in school. I have to resort to coming all the way back here cos my bro brought the wireless broadband with him as he officially shifted out a few months back. I feel so handicapped without internet access.

Im going to post a quick and short entry here cos im running out of time and i need to settle my internship ASAP.

On the plane:
Mummy made it to the "emergency exit" seats on tiger. HAha.. And yes, we had to learn, or at least pretend that we know how to evacuate people in times of danger. Hmm... I was a little depressed when the plane was about to take off. I almost kissed the window on my left as i tried imprint the remains of the land of smile into my head. It was really beautiful, the lights and all... Well, goodbye thailand... FOR A WHILE.. haha.. i will be back. I did the same when we were about to land. The night view of singapore is just as breath-taking too. HOME!

Haha... i was at the new budget terminal so the feeling is not the same. MAybe i would be more emotional if i were to be at Changi T1 or T2. Anyway, haha... back to the taxi that starts from $2.40, FM 933, heard Wu Xu Ma Li's voice... she is one of my fav DJs... and then they started playing May Day's Jue Jiang. WOAH... and after a while...Soon.. I saw papa waiting near the bus stop.

"Ah girl, wei shen me ni shou dao zhe yang? Zhao pian li mian ni kan qi lai zhe yang fei?"
HAHA... PApa ask me why do i look so skinny now when in the pics i send back earlier i look so fat. I dunno if i should be happy or sad. HAha...

Farewell:
JY!!!!!!! I MISS YOU!!! I tried calling you b4 i board the plane. I guess you must be showering, just like how ya omma will call when you are in the bathroom. And so i didnt get to say goodbye on the phone. TAKE CARE GIRL!!! Be strong!!!
