My saviour

An exerpt:

"Neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering. But the subsitute itself ultimately becomes more painful that the legitimate suffering it was designed to avoid. True to form, many will then attempt to avoid this pain and this problem in turn, building layer upon layer of neurosis.
In any case, when we attempt to avoid the legitimate suffering taht results from dealing with problems, we also avoid the growth that problems demand from us. It is for this reason that in chronic mental illness we stop growing. We become stuck. And without healing, the human spirit begins to shrivel"

neurosis(noun) : a mental or personality disturbance not attributable to any known neurological or organic dysfunction
