Sigh... All the protests and demonstrations in Sanam Luang seemed to have heightened to a point that is a little beyond control. Last thursday, the day when i cancelled my Samui trip, i called the Singapore embassy in bangkok to enquire on the extension of my student visa as it is about to expire soon. The lady told me.. oh.. you can do it here but... do not come down today. I thought they were closed for some events but she told me that there were protestors there and she ask me to come back tom. I thought there were a few cos she sounded calm and like nothing big is happening but later on i read from the news, there were 3000 plus protestors. Kevin told me it was a peaceful one.. not to worry but still... its 3000++ le...maybe he is used to the hardcore protests in jakarta so this is nothing. All these while i was aware of the demonstrations and all that has been going on at the democracy monument.. but the fact that my embassy has now become a place where protestors begin to target does make me feel somewhat insecure. This is the first time in my life im afraid to tell people my nationality. Papa and mummi have been calling me to tell me not to reveal to people where i come from. Its difficult le... to say im malaysian or taiwanese... cos im still very proud to be a singaporean.
Actually i wasnt that concern over these issues until last week, when i was close to the democracy monument and i saw some protesters did i begin to feel a little uncomfortable. Mummy usually only call once a week. She called me twice today to check where i was and to make sure im home and not on the streets. Jen has been telling me about how she is worried about the situation here as well. Actually when mummy first called this afternoon, i told her not to worry and i myself wasnt that worried. But just now i realised that the traffic was exceptionally smooth today and the roads are pretty quiet too... People are staying home le... The atmosphere is a bit wierd.
Well... tom is the day. Tonight, there is suppose to be around 100,000 people camping near the palace and these people are all going on a major demonstration where Thaksin is going to have his weekly cabinet meeting. As written in the newspapers... If the demonstration turns violent tom, the gov will declare a state of emergency. Thank god i have enough instant noodles and can food at home. Haha.. worst come to worst i will order room service. On one hand its quite an experience to be going thru these kind of things cos back home, everything is too orderly and nice... no sane soul will go demonstrate or protest.. hahah.. cos that is like asking for instant attention from the police plus all the people around will call you "siao" and like tracy said, "chi sin".
Anyway.. to all the people who are very concerned about me. Thanks a million. I really appreciate it. By the way, my place is pretty far away from Sanam Luang. How far? ITs about Woodlands from orchard road without CTE. And there isnt any "monuments" near here. And by the way, i stay pretty near the princess. So if the princess is safe. I should be too.
Hmm... let me talk a bit about my samui trip. Anyway, this city is full of people who try to squeeze as much as they can out of tourists and foreigners, even if you are poor students. On top of that, im very glad that i didnt go for the trip. cos i would have to hide it from mummy and by right, i should be on the train now heading south. And she is already so worried now, im glad im able to be here without guilt(except for the malaysian issue)... and enjoying my kfc. Also, i wouldnt have to miss 2 classes plus, i dun need to travel 40 hours for a 3 day trip and spending a bomb. Everything just didnt go right for this trip...
It was just reported on the news that they detected 31 earthquakes at the Andamen Sea, which is the sea to the west of phuket. They were about 4.0 to 5.2 on the ritcher scale. 7.2 brings you a tsunami.
Somebody has to bless this country... Somebody...
Actually... i think im the only exchange student here who is not doing anything adventurous at this point of time. Jy gungho gungho went travelling a lone to Korat, this province northeastern to bkk. Yesterday she asked me if she should inform her mum i said yeah, at least to test her reaction. Then turn out, her mum tell her its ok, she doesnt care. Then i tell Jy that probably her mum doesnt love her anymore. ahah... Then i told her that she should tell me like roughly where she will be and all so that if she doesnt return by wed, at least i know where she was. Then i ask her, if she remembers my hp number by hard in case she needs help and her cellphone breaks down. Then she panic a little and after a while she went to sleep le. She bid goodbye to me cos she said she will leave early morning today and i will most prolly not see her cos my new body alarm clock is set at 945am every morning. So.. i thought she left and was well until at around 11pm, after the housekeepers came to make our beds... i found her hp on the bed. AHah.. this silly girl didnt even rem to bring her hp. But she packed the charger into her backpack.
Now i will talk about mallen. AHah.. same apartment, next room. Yesterday she was telling me about how she will be joining in the protest. Yeah.. its 11pm here now. She is nowhere in sight. Lindsay went to the full moon party in Koh Phang An.
See.. im the only not adventurous exchange student left at this point in time...
